What it's 2014...where do I begin? | Seattle Newborn Photographer

Ask any photographer and I think they will agree that many of us begin a new year with the long list of "My (Photography) Business Resolutions".

I will keep better records of my sessions so I am not scrambling to put everything together when it comes time to file taxes...

I will take more photos of my own children (and maybe hang a few of them up)...

I will book (X) amount of sessions this year...

I will attend a workshop....

The list goes on and on, but a common resolution I see amongst many of us:

I WILL BLOG and KEEP IT UPDATED.

Well considering my last blog post was a VERY, VERY, VERY long time ago it is safe to say it hasn't been on my resolution list EVER.

As a mother of 3, Girl Scout leader, classroom volunteer, soccer mom, military wife, and world's busiest taxi driver, oh AND a PHOTOGRAPHER....I can list a million reasons why I have neglected my blog, but I will name just a few.

1)  Balance...I try my best yet still struggle with balancing all the hats I wear and thinking of adding the "blogger" hat is overwhelming.

2)   Writing...I used to love to write, but after wiping a baby's b-u-t-t (yes, I am spelling it out because it is a "bad" word at our house according to my girls) 3-4 times a day, it is difficult to put together a complete sentence.

3)  Visibility...who is really looking at it....Right????

4)  Blogsite..."I am going to create a blogsite and then I will begin blogging."  (Yeah...that hasn't happened.)

After leaving Virginia Beach and having baby #3 I struggled with where I was going to take my business.  When you love something so much it is difficult to let it go, but when you're a military wife never knowing where you are heading next OR if you can or can not count on your husband to pick up the kids from soccer, it is difficult to think about maintaining a business too.  But now that my little guy is a year old (and I have found some wonderful babysitters) AND I have two in elementary school, I can see the light at the end of my blog.

I have realized...

1) I can balance my "blogger" hat into my "working hours"

2)  Writing isn't so bad with a glass of wine in hand

3)  My blog is missing all those months and months of my hard work, accomplishments, perseverance, growth, AND many INCREDIBLE, AWESOME families that have spent time in front of my camera.  (TOTALLY worth sharing...even if only a few see it.)  And hello....SEO!

4)  One day I will get around to that blogsite (maybe one day when the little guy is in preschool).

I have been working the last few weeks on making some changes to my business, marketing, website and implementing my list of "2014 Business Resolutions" AND I am happy to say that this year...

I WILL BLOG and do my best to keep it updated.

Over the next few weeks I am going to be blogging some of my favorite 2013 sessions, but I couldn't think of a better way to begin this resolution than with a very special family.

I met the Gage family in Virginia Beach when their youngest was a year old.  A repeat client is one of the best compliments, but repeat times 9 (Yes...this was our 9th session) is beyond flattering.
While they're always so thankful for the moments I have captured...I am more thankful for them.  They inspire me and remind me why I LOVE and make the time to wear that "photographer" hat.

Here are some images from our most recent session with Grandpa and Grandma.  While I travel to Virginia Beach a few times a year...this time they were visiting the Pacific Northwest.
